The Orrery of Business Is on Kickstarter

OFMOS® Essential — a tabletop strategy game and learning system for 2–4 players, designed for a lifetime of play and learning — launched this morning on Kickstarter.

Why a tabletop, and why now? AI makes it easy to outsource strategic reasoning — the tools are right there, and the answers come back fast. The capability erodes silently. OFMOS® Essential puts strategic thinking back to work — in a room, around a board, with other people, under real competitive pressure. It is the kind of practice AI cannot replace.

The game is at the center of everything else. It can be played as pure abstract strategy, as a rigorous business simulation with structured debriefs, or as a facilitated strategy learning session, and the same rulebook supports all of it. Around the game, a body of work makes the deeper play possible — two foundational theories that explain why markets behave the way they do, the Five Business Big Pictures framework, and three pilot Learning Guides for facilitators.

The System Is Ready: Plan Your First Session

For the educators, L&D professionals, coaches, and parents who have been following this work: the three pilot Strategy Learning Guides are available now as free downloads at ofmos.com.

Each guide provides everything a facilitator needs to run a single-match learning session at one level of the framework using OFMOS® Essential — 60 to 90 minutes, 3 to 4 players per group, no prior business knowledge required. Each includes a structured three-phase debrief, a connection to the foundational theories, and three printable handouts: a quick-reference rules card, a post-session takeaway, and a score sheet.

The Five Business Big Pictures is a strategy framework that identifies five levels at which strategic thinking operates. Three pilot guides are available now. If you're new to the framework, the Product Level is the natural entry point. Full guides for all five levels are in development.
Strategy at the Individual Level — the CEO of your own mind.
For coaches, self-learners, and anyone working on the quality of their own decisions. The first level. Each piece on the board is a decision. Each turn is a moment of strategic thinking practiced under competitive pressure. Synergies emerge as routines, processes, and workflows — multiple decisions working together as a coordinated system. The formula for success at this level is coherence: an integrated understanding of the need structure that underlies all strategic decisions. This is the unified mental model the strategist brings to every higher level.

For professionals navigating AI adoption, L&D teams designing AI readiness programs, and anyone whose work is being reshaped by the tools they choose. At this level, the pieces are AI tools — instruments that shape decisions before the person acts. Tools commoditize. The strategic edge does not come from leftward automation that everyone adopts; it comes from rightward innovation, tools that deepen analytical capability and unlock insights that would be cognitively unreachable without them. The formula for success is cognitive alignment and AI tool synergies — ensuring the portfolio is aligned with the strategist's judgment and that the tools work together as a deliberate system, with the human mind in command. For product managers, product marketers, founders, and educators teaching strategy through products. The default simulation level and the natural entry point for the framework. Each piece is a product positioned in a market. Players experience commoditization as a structural force, not a competitive event. Innovation operates in three forms — increasing complexity, decreasing complexity, and shifting to a higher-perceived-value market. The formula for success is product innovation and product synergies — managing the portfolio as a system under both forces, not optimizing individual products in isolation.
